Cycles

A cycle is one job search, from its first application to its end: "Autumn 2026", say, or "Remote, Europe". Everything on the board belongs to one.

Why cycles

Job searches come in waves. You look for a few months, take a job, and look again a couple of years later. A cycle keeps each wave apart, so the board shows this search, not every application you've ever made, and Stats can show one search's numbers, or every search's.

Running and ended

  • A new hunt has none: until one's running, the board offers to start one (named for the season, unless you name it), and nothing goes on it.
  • Several can run at once: a search for permanent roles beside one for contracts, say. The board shows them all, or one, and a new application goes into the running cycle started last, unless you choose.
  • Ending a cycle says how it ended: you accepted an offer, you're taking a break, you stopped looking, or in your own words. Ended with an offer, the process with the offer moves to its stage's Accepted lane, and the cycle's open reminders are marked done.
  • An ended cycle keeps its board as it was, to look at but not change: its processes can't be moved, closed or edited, and nothing new goes into it.

Starting another

Starting a new cycle can bring back processes from ended ones: a company that said "not now", or a role that went quiet. Each comes back as a new process of the same application (see Applications and processes), so the old cycle's board still says how it went the first time.

What cycles share

Companies, people, files, stories, tags and Settings belong to you, not to a cycle: the recruiter you met two searches ago is still in your contacts.

Cycles are on their own page (/cycles): each with its weeks, its applications and how it ended, and links to its board and its stats.
